Pulpí Geode (Educational)

The Pulpi Geode is a stunning natural phenomenon located in the Mina Rica in Sierra del Aguilón, Spain. It is considered the largest (visitable) geode in the world, and certainly the largest in Europe.

Pulpí is around an hours drive away from Mojácar Playa, so you'll need to have a car, or rent a car for the day with one of our recommended Mojácar based car hire companies.

This impressive geode, discovered by the Madrid Mineralogist Group in December 1999, measures approximately 8 metres in length and 2 metres in height, and is adorned with immense gypsum crystals. The size, transparency, and pristine preservation of these crystals make the Pulpi Geode a unique spectacle worldwide.

Aside from the geode, the Mina Rica hosts a wealth of other geological interests. Visitors can observe various structural elements, numerous formations such as epsomite and calcite speleothems, and mineral "gypsum beards".

Besides the Giant Geode, the mine also houses numerous geodes of various sizes, the most spectacular of which are the Split Geode and the Swallowtail Geode.

The region has a rich history of mining that dates back to 1840, making it an exciting destination for those interested in geological and historical explorations. The Pulpi Geode, the largest mineral geode in Europe, was discovered here in 1999, breathing new life into the Mina Rica.

Visitors of all ages are invited to witness this natural wonder for themselves.

Ticket prices are set at €22 for adults and €18 for children between the ages of 5 and 12. Children under 5 are admitted free of charge. The geode is open to the public seven days a week making it one of the best activities for a rainy day (booking is a must).
